Last year I received a Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council (SEMAC) grant.
The goal for my project, Sogn Valley – Painting the Little Cannon Watershed, was to create paintings of the Little Cannon River, with sketches and fields studies done on-site. From the headwaters to the junction with the Cannon River, I explored the river and watershed with its surrounding hills, meadows, springs and creeks. It was a year-long venture with a culminating exhibit and reception planned for July 2020. However, COVID restrictions and gallery closures forced a change in plans from a physical to an on-line virtual exhibit. A Zoom Open House event, hosted by the CRWP (Cannon River Watershed Partnership) took place on December 3, 2020. You may view the SEMAC Slideshow from this event on the next page.
Below are large paintings created from sketches, field studies and photos.
Reflection
Dramatic cliffs, not far from the old Oxford Mill, overlook the Little Cannon River.
Emerald Expanse
A meandering creek flows through this beautiful valley, part of the upper reaches of the Little Cannon River.
December Grass
Golden grasses, cool violets against warm sunlit snow and an icy creek- I just had to paint it!
Friday Afternoon
People come from miles around to fish for trout in the Little Cannon River.
Lazy River
Just off the beaten track, I found this hidden treasure.
Winter at the Summerplace
I love to catch the light and shadows in winter - my favorite season to paint.
The following paintings were created prior to this project but the subject matter remains the same - Sogn Valley and the Little Cannon Watershed.
